New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart’s parents, Brandon and Kara Dart, have always supported their son in his football career.

Both Brandon and Kara played sports growing up, with Brandon playing football at college just like Jaxson. Because of their shared experience, Brandon was able to pass on advice to his star player son.

While Jaxson's parents have offered constructive criticism when worthwhile, after a noteworthy performance in a televised game, Brandon told The New York Times, "I was just elated and happy because I knew he just proved his worth.”

Brandon and Kara have another son, Diesel, who plays football in high school, as well as two daughters, who were all born and raised in their home state of Utah, where Kara runs a fitness program.

Brandon and Kara support their children but challenge them too, as Kara said in an interview with the University of Mississippi. “For so many years now, he has not felt comfortable," she said. "We have a phrase at our house: You have to be comfortable being uncomfortable. Because so much of life is that.”

From their own passion for sports to the love they show their children, here’s everything to know about Jaxson Dart’s parents, Brandon and Kara Dart.

Both Brandon and Kara grew up in Utah. He attended Northridge High School in Layton, per University of Utah Athletics, and she went to Weber High School in Pleasant View, according to Sport's Illustrated.

Brandon played football, basketball and baseball in high school and was a sprinter and long jumper on the track team, too. Kara ran track and played volleyball at school, and was a two-time all-state basketball player.

Brandon and Kara share two sons, Jaxson and Diesel, and two daughters who stay out of the public eye. Jaxson was born on May 13, 2003, in Kaysville, Utah and plays for the New York Giants after they selected him in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Diesel plays football, too, and is a wide receiver and defensive back at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah.

After being recruited by Brigham Young University, Utah State University, Boise State University and Washington State University, Brandon joined the University of Utah. He played football there from 1994 to 1996 and then from 1999 to 2000, after he was allowed two extra years of availability via the NCAA.

He struggled with injuries in his first two years and was redshirted before returning the following year to start 10 games and become the team’s second-leading tackler with 96 total stops and 15 tackles for loss.

He told Deseret News in 1999, after returning from an injury, “I try to put things in perspective, and I know that everyone has their trials ... I would take my shortcomings before something happening to my family or friends."

Brandon was on the Academic Honor Roll during his time in school, and said he’d like to become a dentist.

Brandon is an entrepreneur and owns Dartco Masonry, per LinkedIn. Kara stays active and has detailed her fitness program on her private Instagram account.

In 2019, she suffered a major injury to her foot that meant she wasn’t able to exercise as normal. She wrote on Instagram at the time that she wouldn’t be able to take part in the Boston Marathon, explaining, “The last month has been a whirlwind. I realized my injury was quite severe, had major foot and ankle surgery, and now I am 16 days post-surgery with a hard cast," per Yahoo! Sports.

She continued, “I have been ‘running’ to some degree for as long as I can remember. Sprinting, flipping, jumping, and then gradually transitioning into distance running. Obviously Boston is out for me this year."

Brandon helped foster Jaxson’s interest in football and supported him as he grew up playing the sport. He told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in 2024, “As a little guy, he could throw, he could hit, he could shoot and he could throw a football. That’s all we would do on the weekends when he was little.”

Brandon has offered Jaxson advice throughout his career. Discussing a pep talk he’d given to his son, Brandon recalled, “I just said, ‘Jaxson, let me tell you something about football. Football is not a movie. Football’s not a fairytale. And the best teams don’t always win, and the best players don’t always perform when they absolutely have to. That’s just what it is. And you can’t look at it as a failure because there were so many great things that happened along the way.’ ”

Kara has also given Jaxson support and constructive feedback. Brandon added, “I just remember walking in the house and [Brandon] at the kitchen table and she’s kind of giving it to him, like, ‘Jax, you had a chance at that point in time to blow that dude up. We don’t take the easy way out.’ And he’s kind of sitting there like, ‘Okay mom, okay, okay.’ ”

In August 2024, Jaxson told GQ about his mom, “When I'm walking through the Walk of Champions, I'll go see her, give her a hug, and she'll try to hype me up. But after every little interaction, she always reminds me to slide. That's her go-to every single time. If she thinks I didn't hear it when I walk away, she'll make sure to scream it even louder."

Jaxson told GQ in 2024 that Kara has influenced his interest in fashion and clothing choices, explaining, “My mom's into it, and she’s done a great job of letting me choose and find things that I like and just giving me options. At the same time, it's just something that I've come to really love and to express myself in different ways.”

He added that he’ll reach out to her when deciding what to wear for pre-game walkouts or if he’s choosing between outfits. “I've relied on her for a lot of things in the fashion world,” Jaxson said. “At the same time, I think she gives great input.”
