Daddy Yankee says he won't perform his hit 'Gasolina' at Bad Bunny's halftime show

Don't expect to see Daddy Yankee at the Super Bowl, at least not at the mic during the halftime show.

When ABC News asked the artist in a recent interview if he would be performing his 2004 hit "Gasolina" as part of headliner Bad Bunny's 2026 Apple Music Super Bowl LX halftime show, he was clear.

"No, not right now. Not right now," he answered. "Cause I'm on a different mission right now...even though I respect what he's doing right now. Don't get me wrong. Benito is an ally."

Born Ramón Ayala, Daddy Yankee has previously collaborated with Bad Bunny, but said in December 2023 that he was retiring to devote his life to Jesus.

Both he and Bad Bunny, who was born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, are from Puerto Rico.

"And I love it, 'cause he's from Puerto Rico," Daddy Yankee said. "And actually, we were talking yesterday. I told him, 'I wish you the best. Go out there and do your best, and we're proud of you.' But I'm in a different mission right now. It's different. So I gotta represent what I'm doing right now 100 percent."

He said that, if Bad Bunny were to ask him to perform his uplifting song "Sonríele," though, "that's different." Then, he would be willing to take the stage to "send a message."

"I would love to do it," Daddy Yankee said. "You know, I respect it. I respect his creative decision. I respect everything that he's doing right now. And it's very important for the Spanish-speaking community, for the Latinos. Somebody's gonna sing in Spanish and that's beautiful."

Referencing football, Daddy Yankee said, "I think the biggest touchdown of his career will be when he accepts Jesus in his life."

The September announcement that Bad Bunny would headline the show received some backlash, including from Republican politicians. President Trump called the selection "absolutely ridiculous."

Bad Bunny will take the stage aat Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., the home field of the San Francisco 49ers, on Feb. 8, 2026.
