One of the best things about live music is that anything can happen...except, sometimes that's actually one of the worst things.
Considering the fact that chart-topping '80s pop-rockers Duran Duran have been performing for close to half a century, it's safe to say they've dealt with their fair share of mid-concert blunders...but what happened at one recent show in Thousand Palms, California, apparently forced the band to leave the stage.
In a video shared on TikTok by an audience member this week, the members of Duran Duran were performing their 1985 hit "A View to a Kill" when the sound suddenly cut out, even as they continued to play. As a loud ringing noise rang out over the crowd, fans continued to cheer.
"Duran Duran — OOPS," read the text overlay, with the caption adding, "Major concert mishap tonight @acrisure_arena in Palm Desert."
Fans were quick to show their support for the band in the comments.
"Well, at least you know they aren't lip syncing!" one person wrote, with a second pointing out, "And the band played on."
"That concert was great even with that mishap!" raved someone else, and several other commenters who were at the concert agreed.
According to more fans who said they were there (including the original poster), the sound was out for roughly 20 to 30 minutes, during which time the band left the stage.
"Everyone was sweating bullets there for about 1/2 an hour. I thought we were gonna learn a lesson in crowd control for a bit there. They were really great!" one person recalled.
According to AZ Central, the audio issues didn't stop Duran Duran from delivering a setlist packed with hits, including "Ordinary World," “Hungry Like the Wolf” and "Rio" in addition to a cover of Talking Heads' “Psycho Killer” performed as a medley with “Girls on Film.” The band is headed to Phoenix, Arizona, next week, where they'll be appearing at the Mortgage Matchup Center on Monday, Jan. 5.
