Actor Dean Butler revealed he's not a fan of a 1983 episode ofLittle House on the Prairie.
Butler discussed his time playing Almanzo Wilder in a November 2025 interview on his Little House on the Prairie co-star, Patrick Labyorteaux's podcast, The Patrick LabyorSheaux, alongside several of their former castmates, likeAlison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson, Pamela Roylance, who played Sarah Carter, and Jennifer Donati, who played Rose Wilder. During the podcast interview, Butler shared that his least favorite Little House on the Prairie episode was from the show's ninth and final season, titled "For the Love of Blanche." In the episode, Mr. Edwards (Victor French) has an orangutan called Blanche in his custody, which causes some issues in Walnut Grove.
"I always have to say for 'The Love of Blanche,'" said Butler, which delighted Arngrim.
"I just spat milk out my nose. Oh my god. 'The Love of Blanche.' I'm dying," said an amused Arngrim, who starred as Nellie for the show's first seven seasons.
Butler, who joined the Little House on the Prairie's cast in Season 6, explained that he believed including an orangutan in the episode showed that the historical drama was on the decline.
"We jumped this huge shark with this orangutan. It's like where does this come from? And of course, Mr. Edwards adopts the orangutan. And we never see the orangutan again. You go through this whole moment and you never see it again," said Butler in the podcast interview.
Arngrim also shared her least favorite Little House on the Prairie episodes. She said that she didn't like having to film any episodes that included sporting events. The actress explained that she would have to sit in the stands on hot days in Simi Valley while pretending to watch a game.
"You'd sit in these bleachers where it was a hundred million degrees and the ark lights are on us doing absolutely nothing for many, many hours. And you'd sit there and they go, 'Okay.' And now they're winning.' 'Yay.' 'And now they're losing.' 'Oh.' And this would go on for like six freaking hours of watching nothing," recalled Arngrim.
She then shared that Charlotte Stewart, who played teacher Miss Beadle, ended up passing out while filming one of the sports scenes.
"She was doing that one time and then they said, 'Okay, finally we're stopping. Yes, please go to lunch. Go to lunch.' And everyone got up, they went, 'Charlotte?' And she was just sitting there and she had in fact lost consciousness and fainted and blacked out," said Arngrim.
In the same podcast episode, Arngrim said she was also constantly fainting on set because of the heat and her heavy costumes.
