Anne Hathaway earned her title as one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood not just by being one of the most stylish stars in the industry; she also has starred in some of the most beloved romantic comedies and dramas since her career breakthrough in the early aughts with The Princess Diaries.
In the years since, films like The Idea of You, Becoming Jane and Ella Enchanted have been top comfort rewatches for millions — and such is her power that even male leads who were initially considered romantic interests (ahem, The Devil Wears Prada's Nate) have been recast as villains. (Why couldn't he just support her career?!) But hero or villain, we can all argue her love interests are serious eye candy, and though she's far too polite to ever rank them, we don't mind giving it a shot.
Below, we're ranking some of the PEOPLE's 2026 World's Most Beautiful cover star's leading men.

Robert Schwartzman in 'The Princess Diaries'

Robert Schwartzman's Michael Moscovitz was literally crafted to be Mia Thermopolis' prince charming, so, yes, he takes the top spot. You can't convince us otherwise. He had heart eyes for her when she was a "freak" with no tiara to give her status, he offers to fix her dream car for free and, he just really, really wanted to impress her with his band's music, if only she would make time for him. What more can a millennial who came of age in the 2000s ask for in a movie?

Christian Bale in 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Is there a more scintillating will-they-won't-they romance in the DC Comics universe than Batman and Catwoman? Bale's brooding Bruce Wayne joined the ranks of other exceptionally handsome men — George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton — who also played the crime-fighting and wealthy protector of Gotham. And his chemistry with Hathaway's villainous burglar is one of the highlights of an already great movie.

Jake Gyllenhaal in 'Love and Other Drugs'

The 2010 dramedy Love and Other Drugs wasn't the first time Hathaway shared the screen with Jake Gyllenhaal; they'd played an unhappily married couple in 2005's Brokeback Mountain. While their relationship in the Ang Lee film was ill-fated, their witty banter and cat and mouse dynamic in Love and Other Drugs does make it a good (and racy!) watch.

Hugh Dancy in 'Ella Enchanted'

She doesn't need a prince to save her, but we can't blame her for being tempted to let Hugh Dancy — Prince Char in the fairytale film — give it a try! He's the perfect unassuming, handsome and (yes) charming prince who pursues Hathaway's Ella, a maiden given the curse of obedience at birth by a well-intentioned fairy godmother. Don't miss their rendition of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" at the end.

Chris Pine in 'The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement'

Chris Pine's icy-blue eyes alone might easily have snagged Nicholas Devereaux the top spot. And though his intentions to marry Mia wound up being genuine in The Princess Diaries 2, he definitely gets some points docked off for his opportunistic ways. Still, he accepts her for all her idiosyncrasies and turns out to be a stand up guy, which qualifies him to be in the top 5.

James McAvoy in 'Becoming Jane'

It's not James McAvoy's best doomed romantic hero (that would be Atonement). However, his turn as Tom Lefroy in this Romeo and Juliet-esque tale, in which Hathaway plays Jane Austen, still makes us cry. The push-pull of Jane and Tom's beginnings, their slow-burning love, and the realization that they can never be together, all lead Becoming Jane to its wistful kind of tragedy.

Nicholas Galitzine in 'The Idea of You'

Nicholas Galitzine's Hayes Campbell has all the makings of an onscreen heartthrob: He's handsome, he's in a successful boy band, he's handsome, he's got cool arm tattoos, he's handsome, he's got a smooth English accent, oh, and did we mention he was handsome? 10/10 no notes on the casting of this charmer, who plays the 24-year-old musician (respectfully) pursuing a 39-year-old married woman. We just moved him down the list because of all the annoying things that come along with dating a musical superstar that Hathaway's Solène must endure.

Chiwetel Ejiofor in 'Locked Down'

Chiwetel Ejiofor's ability to provide levity with a straight face makes this film an underrated gem in his and Hathaway's filmographies. Starring as Linda and Paxton, Hathaway and Ejiofor play a separated couple who have to live together during the pandemic. Things come to a head when he is furloughed and she has to lay off employees from the company she works for. The couple comes up with a simple solution to fight the man and better their situations: to steal a £3 million diamond from Harrods. This can only end well, right?

Charlie Hunnam in 'Nicholas Nickleby'

Charlie Hunnam's Nicholas Nickleby could make Anne Hathaway's Madaline Bray blush with just a look, and who can blame her? He fought for justice, had a big heart and remained purpose-driven in this very chaotic 19th-century world originally crafted by Charles Dickens.

Matthew McConaughey in 'Serenity'

After working together together in 2014's Interstellar, Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey proved to, once again, be a formidable onscreen pair in 2019's Serenity. Their relationship was hardly ideal — she played his ex-wife, who comes to him with a $10 million offer to kill her current husband — but their chemistry was just the ingredient this trippy thriller needed and proved that even in a movie that has audiences scratching their heads, these Oscar-winners can still deliver captivating performances.

Topher Grace in 'Valentine's Day'

Sure, they had a secret between them that led to a rift in their relationship, but objectively speaking, Hathaway and Topher Grace's Liz and Jason were one of the couples who fared better in the star-studded buffet that was Valentine's Day.

Chris Pratt in 'Bride Wars'

Standing in the gap for the guys who omit the pomp and circumstance and opt for sentimental, simple and heartfelt proposals was Chris Pratt's Fletcher Flemson from 2009's Bride Wars. And you know what, that is good enough for us! (Still...we're glad they broke up.)

Adrien Grenier in 'The Devil Wears Prada'

The question of whether or not Nate was the real villain remains rampant within The Devil Wears Prada fandom. Some might argue that he was just a product of his time, and was anxious about watching someone he'd loved for a long time morph into someone he didn't recognize. But even if we could grant him that grace, his penchant for guilt-tripping her for loving her job just makes him (and the rest of Andy's friends) unlikeable.
