A Texas youth baseball coach was struck by a stray bullet during a baseball game in a suburb of Houston on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Three men were arrested on felony charges of deadly conduct with a firearm after officials reported that the suspects fired their guns from a nearby pasture toward the baseball field, according to a press release from the Waller County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said the gunfire struck one adult man in the shoulder, with the man being transported to a local hospital and released later in the day. Law enforcement believes the shots were meant for target practice and not directed at the players or spectators.
Ashley Solano told local news station KTRK that she and her 11-year-old son, Liam, were traumatized by the experience at the baseball game.
"It was pretty terrifying seeing all the kids rushing out and just hearing things hitting poles," Ashley said.
Medical helicopter transports coach to safety
In a video released by Waller County Medical Services after the shooting, a medical helicopter is seen taking off from the baseball field to transport the injured coach to a nearby hospital.
