Ohhhhh, we’ve got some fun goodies for you this week in the *Survivor 50* Mystery Box. Goodies like exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and video, an episode recap from perhaps the greatest to ever play the game, and other odds and ends sure to delight. But we start with a quick history lesson.
The world held is collective breath for 36 seconds last Wednesday night when *Survivor 50** *host Jeff Probst suddenly decided to start rapping. It seems everyone had an opinion about it, even Q Burdette, who experienced it up close and in person!
My opinion, of course, is that Probst should *only* be allowed to rap from here on out, but that’s just me. While I was able to nab the most impressive exclusive of my journalistic career by getting LL Cool J(eff) to discuss the how and why it actually happened, it also got me thinking about the history of *Survivor* rap.
The first place my brain went is the first place my brain always goes, to the *Heroes vs. Villains* jury rock band, the Dragonz, for which I wrote a massive oral history that needs to be read immediately if not previously perused. It was there at Ponderosa that Coach, Courtney, and JT gave us the epic “Dragonz Rap” which can be listened to below… if you dare.
This led one fan to recall another hilarious attempt at dropping bars way back in season 4, *Marquesas*…
But it should be noted that “Dragonz Rap” is amazingly one of *several* Ponderosa raps. Two seasons after the Dragonz, luminaries such as Andrea Boehlke, Matt Elrod, and David Murphy formed the *Redemption Island* jury band Chucho, and composed the unreleased epic “Monkey in a Cage” which I now present for your "enjoyment"…
Perhaps the height of white reality TV rapping came once again at Ponderosa during the *Ghost Island* season, when Chris “The Noble One” Noble dropped the absolutely epic “Ponderosa” — a music video that needs to be seen to be believed… and even then you *still* may not believe it.
Sure, people may call all this activity “cringe” and “painful.” I call it hilarious and can only hope that Colby, Jonathan, and Chrissy have since been inspired to start the world’s hottest new rap trio.
Okay, let’s see what else is in the mystery box this week. Starting with…

Behind the scenes at EW’s cover shoot
If history has proven anything, it is that any time I take a picture on *Survivor* that Kamilla Karthigesu is guaranteed to have the funniest facial expression (or her hair hilariously covering said facial expression, as happened two weeks ago). But here she is again on the behind-the-scenes shot of the *Survivor 50* cast removing their shoes for the EW cover shoot.
Maybe having them take their shoes off was not such a great idea. At one point a barefoot Christian Hubicki stubbed his open toe on some coral, started bleeding, and medical had to come in to treat it. I almost had a heart attack thinking I had just taken out one of the cast members before the game had even began. Can you imagine?!? I would have been absolutely mortified had that happened and never would have been able to show my face in public again.
Anyway, he looks okay here. If you can tear your eyes away from Kamilla dealing with the wind, that is…

Angelina and Q having fun together
The edit showed Q Burdette being pretty down on Angelina Keeley, and by the end they both wanted each other out. But for those of us hoping for hilarity by pairing these two "extra" personalities together, there was some fun, even if it did not make it to air.
While at the original Vatu camp, I caught this one moment of Angelina inquiring about her missing Q-Skirt order below.
A-frame attack
I snapped this picture on location during the first immunity challenge, and I keep finding myself drawn back to it. Because look at Christian. That is a *super* weird way to descend an A-frame net. Usually what you want to do is either slide or bounce on your butt down the net, but Professor Hubicki looks like he is just straight up walking! So odd. Also, check out the drone in the upper right hand corner capturing all the action.

A Survivor legend weighs in
Our string of *Survivor* legends weighing in on episodes continues. First we had season 47 champion Rachel LaMont sharing her take on the premiere. Then it was *Blood vs. Water* winner Tyson Apostol serving up episode 2 hot takes. Now let's kick it up another notch with arguably the greatest winner ever (although that designation is currently up to you), the one and only Parvati Shallow! — who conquered both U.S. and Australia editions of the franchise. Whom does she name as her *Survivor 50 *winner and loser of the week? Watch below and find out! (And also make sure to check out Parvati's memoir, *Nice Girls Don't Win*.)
The last word(s)
An outtake that did not make it into my pre-game interview with Q:
"I will target you for anything, and folks know that. And it's so fun because the first 17 days, I can't do any of that. I'm telling myself that over and over and over: *Just sit there, dude, be patient. Be patient. The game's going to come to me.*"

Everyone was focussed on Genevieve's reaction to Probst rapping, but if you want a true hidden gem, check out my man Club Condo while the Hostmaster General was dropping bars. A perfect way to end this wacky week of *Survivor*.
