Pratt returns as the voice of Mario alongside his costars from the first movie: Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Based on the *Super Mario Galaxy* video games, the sequel is helmed by the first film's directing team, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. It's currently set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.

The first movie saw Mario and his brother Luigi, two plumbers from New York City, get sucked through a portal to the Mushroom Kingdom, which was under siege by Bowser. Teaming up with Peach, Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen), and host of other allies, Mario helped stop Bowser's invasion.

This next chapter picks up with Bowser still in mini form after eating a size-shrinking mushroom at the end of the first movie. He's living in a mini castle under the watchful eye of Mario and Luigi, but he still has his heart set on Peach.

The trailer then shows Peach and Toad shooting off into space, revealing some of the other worlds the gang will traverse. Meanwhile, Bowser Jr. is determined to bust his father out of mini jail.

"At this moment, our team of artists at Illumination are just weeks away from completing animation," producer Chris Meledandri said during the Nintendo Direct presentation.
