Hollywood is still deep in the throes of ā90s nostalgia, as evidenced by the currentslew ofturn-of-the-millenniumprojects studios are eager to remix or reboot into prequels, sequels, and spin-offs. The 1995 fan-favorite film Clueless was initially set for a sequel TV series on Peacock, with star Alicia Silverstone meant to reprise her original, iconic role as Cher Horowitzābut the show has since fallen out of development.
This wasnāt Peacockās first attempt at revisiting Clueless. Per Deadline, a reboot series focusing on Stacey Dashās Dionne Davenport, Cherās best friend, originally went into development before eventually failing to solidify.

Who was developing the show?
CBS Studios and Universal Television planned to develop Cherās latest saga for Peacock. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Gossip Girl fame were slated to write and executive produce alongside Dollface creator (and Freakier Friday writer) Jordan Weiss. The 1995 filmās writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence also signed on as executive producers.
What did Silverstone say about the series?
In June 2025, Alicia Silverstone, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, Amy Heckerling, as well as costume designer Mona May and casting director Marcia Ross celebrated the filmās 30th anniversary at a screening and panel at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. At the time, Silverstone said there was ānothingā she could reveal about the TV sequel in an interview with People at the event, but Heckerling admitted she was āthrilled to deathā it was happening. Silverstone was also asked if she ever thought she would ever play Cher again.
She replied, āI didnāt. And then I did it for the Super Bowl, yeah, and it was so much fun. We did it really at the Super Bowl.ā The star was referring to her ad for Rakuten that aired during the big game:

In August 2025, Silverstone shared more about the project in an interview on Today, saying, āIām really excited about it. I think weāre going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher. So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it. Iām confident that weāll be able to do that, but weāre in baby stages right now.ā
Who else was in the Clueless sequel series?
Peacock revealed no news about the Clueless sequel series cast aside from Silverstone. In 2023, Silverstone told The Hollywood Reporter that āwhen Clueless came out, [my life] really shifted. I had been the girl from Crush, then I was the Aerosmith chick, and then, after that, I was Cher.ā And as the Peacock announcement suggests, she never really stopped being Cher.
Why isnāt the series being developed anymore?
On April 23, 2026, Deadline revealed that the āClueless TV series with Silverstone attached to star and executive produce is no longer in development at Peacock.ā Thereās still a chance it could happen, thoughāthe Deadline report noted that āCBS Studios and Paramount remain high on the project and the IP, and it is expected to create strong interest when it is taken out to market.ā
