With Halloween only a month away, kids are beginning to look forward to the big night.
Aside from the traditional Ghostface and Disney princess, kids may be asking for costumes from their favorite movies, television shows and video games that dominated pop culture this year. Several Netflix originals, including "KPop Demon Hunters," "Wednesday," and "Squid Game" top the list. And of course, the "Minecraft" Chicken Jockey and ever-popular Labubu can't be looked over either.
Whether you're buying online or making from scratch at home, here's a look at the Halloween costumes are topping trends for kids this spooky season.
Traditionally, the day gives children and adults alike the opportunity to transform into someone or something else. Trick-or-treaters and other participants don outfits, wigs and accessories to show off their disguises for the event. According to the Library of Congress, Halloween comes from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a religious celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of summer. During the festival, people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. Later, in the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated Nov. 1 as All Saints Day, intending to incorporate Samhain festival traditions. The evening before All Saints Day became known as All Hallows Eve, and later, Halloween, per the Library of Congress.
